Hemstitched Yoke Summer Dress

by Jeannie Downs Baumeister

This pretty linen dress can adorn your little girl this summer with a minimum of sewing effort and maximum of fun for those who love a touch of hand embellishment.

Hemstitched Yoke Summer DressHemstitching is the art of withdrawing parallel threads from a fabric and bundling the cross threads together to create a delicate openwork. The lace on the yoke becomes an elegant feature when it is attached with the hand hemstitch. The lace and embroidery design that grace the hem of this summer dress complement the yoke nicely.

The original yoke design and hem embellishment are included with this article, enabling you to create this exact dress using the “Toddler Summer Dresses” pattern from The Old Fashioned Baby; the sample is a size 2. The fabric is Ulster linen 1000 trimmed in laces from Capitol Imports, #14341 Angel Lace edging and #14435 Fancy Snowflake insertion.
