Jelly Roll Dress and Jacket

By Gail Doane

Gail Doane’s gypsy-inspired jacket starts with strip piecing jelly roll prints before cutting out pattern pieces. Gail works from center back out, mirror imaging her fabric choices, but a scrap bag approach takes a little less planning, and the results are just as sweet. Jelly rolls provide the perfect fabric combinations to add details to the ruffle-trimmed back yoke and pockets of the jacket and the trim of the matching A-line dress with a scalloped hem band, shoulder ruffles, and back belt.
