Vintage-Inspired Girls Dress #1:
Pocketed Posies By Laurie Anderson
This original little dress hails from 1950. The smocking, which is essentially gathering, means the pockets flow in tandem with the gathered skirt rather than work against it like a flat pocket might. Finding inspiration from older garments gives us some of the sweetest designs in heirloom sewing.
Garment details: Laurie’s 3T dress was made using Classic Dress by Creations by Michié. The fabric is white batiste from Fabric Finders. The collar, sleeves, and yoke are trimmed with self-made piping made from bright pink pima cotton gingham. The smocking graph is provided here, along with instructions for adding the adorable smocked pockets that were inspired by a vintage garment.
