A Note from the Editor: Here’s What You Need to Know About Our Latest Happenings

Kathy McMakin, Editor of Classic Sewing magazine

Dear Sewing Friends,

Traditionally, Madeira appliqué involves a lot of handwork. With Debbie Glenn’s trifecta of adorable sailboat garments in our Summer Issue, she shares her secrets for creating a modernized Madeira appliqué technique. It eliminates all the hand basting and tedious needle turning traditionally required to prepare a shaped Madeira band or motif. She also shows you how to achieve perfect pinstitched points. You are going to love learning these techniques, and your little ones are going to look so precious wearing these cute outfits this summer!

Have you joined the 2021 Embroidery Club yet? The first design installment includes two wonderful machine embroidery collections, including a beautiful alphabet and an heirloom collection. Plus, there are more designs coming soon!

Join Connie Palmer for our newest online class: the Victorian Fan Christening Gown. Connie is a master of designing breathtaking christening gowns, and you will love learning all the wonderful techniques she shares while creating this gown.

We also have some fun live online classes happening this week! Join Connie Palmer on Tuesday, May 4, for her Dolly’s Rag Quilt class, then join Alicia Welcher on Thursday, May 6, for her Serger Table Runner with Thread Tassels class.

Please stay safe and sew, sew, sew!
