A Visit with Children’s Corner in Nashville, TN“We focus on many children’s clothing trends, not just our heirloom and classical roots,” says Karen, who along with Emily had first-hand knowledge of the shop’s offerings since both were longtime customers. What they did not anticipate at the beginning was the importance of the relationships within the shop. Fostering these relationships soon became central to their business model.

“Students regularly fill our classroom to learn new techniques or to build a community of friends,” says Karen. “These communities of women share strong bonds that have helped them walk through both happy and sad times. Children’s Corner takes pride in knowing the shop houses these special connections.”

Some Sit & Sew groups at the store have been meeting for nearly two decades. When the store first opened in the late 1970’s, there were not many options readily available for sewing patterns for children, especially heirloom-inspired pieces. Much of the sewing in the South traces its roots to a few early teachers who developed the classic patterns we know and love today.
