Jane Makuch
Everything has a place in this organized sewing room. Each nook and cranny is filled with sewing supplies or Jane’s treasures. With all the beautiful fabrics surrounding her, it inspires Jane to be in her sewing room and planning her next project. Her storage ideas are as beautiful as they are functional.

The space is Jane’s calm retreat during the day, but her husband and son stop in often. “The sofa helps make it more inviting,” Jane says. Even the rug is a neutral shade, letting the myriad of colors in threads, yarns and other sewing supplies shine. Everything is stored artfully and neatly in Ikea cabinets, racks and stands as well as modular cubes by Recollections from Michael’s arts and crafts store. Small drawers are filled with notions, scraps, thread scissors, rotary blades, bobbins, and more.

The lighting—natural, ambient, and task—makes projects easier and is designed to preserve the fabrics. “We had new low-e glass windows installed and I usually keep my cellular shades down,” says Jane. Recessed lights with adjustable LED bulbs also prevent fading. Task lights are used at each machine for exacting work.
