In our Summer 2021 issue, Gail Doane has designed two adorable outfits for little girls! The Bits & Pieces Collection includes both a cute top and capri ensemble as well as a beautiful smocked ruffle V-back dress. Both feature the cutest embellishments! The sweet decorations on the top include woven hemstitching, buttons, and bias binding with rickrack, while the pants have a cute sash bow and lined pockets. The V-back dress is embellished with a frilly smocked ruffle collar, while its sleeves and hem feature bias gingham bands with rickrack. These designs further support Gail’s theory that even the tiniest remnants will find a home in one of her projects! Take a closer look at each garment below:
Bits & Pieces Capri Set
This delightful set uses small buttons to accent the cute top. The capri pants have a sash and elastic at the waist to ensure the perfect fit. The bias binding and the contrasting rickrack echo the colors in the pants. Select white for the top fabric to show off the embellishing technique of entredeux stitching with floss woven through the holes of the stitch. Gail’s buttons match the colors in the capri fabric. The colorful pocket lining is a great use of remnants and adds such interest. The pattern (sizes 4–10) is included in this issue’s downloads.
Bits & Pieces Smocked Ruffle V-Back Dress
Adding a ruffled collar smocked in floss colors to match the flowers in the dress fabric makes these dresses perfect for summer! The two sizes of rickrack and the bias gingham bands add a finishing touch to the outfits. Every little detail adds up to a great dress. The buttons, cording, rickrack, bias binding, and the white collar fabric are a work of art when combined. The pattern (sizes 4–10) is included in this issue’s downloads.
