Pattern Adaptations
1. After front skirt is smocked and blocked to size, the front bodice is created using a fabric block. The lining pattern is used as a template for the front bodice.
2. Sleeves are finished with matching piping.
3. Sash is made from the dress fabric. Cut two sashes 7″ wide by 30″ long.
Preparation
1. Cut front skirt according to size:
- Size 3—31″ long by 45″ wide
- Size 4—32½” long by 45″ wide
- Size 5—34″ long by 45″ wide
- Size 6—35″ long by 45″ wide
2. Cut back skirt according to size:
- Size 3—25″ long by 45″ wide
- Size 4—26½” long by 45″ wide
- Size 5—28″ long by 45″ wide
- Size 6—29½” long by 45″ wide
3. Pleat front skirt with 12 full spaced rows. Top row is a holding row.
4. Unpick 3/8” seam allowances from both sides.
5. Measure the front bodice lining pattern for tie-off measurement.
6. Count pleats and mark the center valley.
7. Mark the centers of each picture smocked dogwood by counting 36 pleats to the left and right of the center valley and 72 pleats to the left and right of the center valley.
