Beth's Heirloom Sewing

This charming Southern shop offers classes, a wide variety of supplies and even samples for the heirloom sewing enthusiast.

Beth Bryson was used to running a business, so when her two favorite sewing shops closed she decided to start her own, and now she is sharing the love. “I would love to find ways to encourage more mothers and grandmothers to sew for their children and grandchildren. Sewing is such a relaxing experience and with our fast-paced lifestyles these days we all need more outlets for relaxation and enjoyment,” says Beth.

Beth's Heirloom SewingHer store, Beth’s Heirloom Sewing—about 10 minutes north of Montgomery in Wetumpka, Alabama—specializes “in anything children, but especially heirloom sewing.” Her staff has extensive experience in the design and construction of heirloom garments and a wide variety of classes are offered for experienced and beginner sewists, as well as kids.

If you don’t want to make it yourself, the shop offers a large selection of samples made from fabrics and patterns available for purchase. This works especially well for girls graduating from high school who need a white dress with a more modern flair, or for the customer who wants to give a handmade gift.

Fabric, laces, trims, patterns, notions and more – the treasures you’ll find during a stroll through Beth’s Heirloom Sewing will make any heirloom sewist’s heart go pitter-patter.

“Customer service is very important to me. I tell my employees the most important person in our shop is the one who comes in the front door,” says Beth, who also runs her husband’s veterinary clinic. “I have always worked with my husband as the office manager at our veterinary clinic and still do,” she says. She opened the sewing shop after the two sewing shops she frequented in nearby Montgomery closed. “I really started this [sewing] as a hobby,” she says. “I just enjoyed this so much I decided to open the shop.”
