Sewing Room

Twenty-five years ago Sydnee learned she was going to be a grandmother for the first time and wanted to make a christening gown for her granddaughter. This started her love affair for heirloom sewing. In 1999 Sydnee entered a contest sponsored by Martha Pullen and Sew Beautiful. This earned her a place in the magazine in December 2000. For the last 15 years she has traveled over the country continuing to enhance her skills. One is never too old to keep learning. There is always something else to learn, she notes. She has made friends everywhere she has traveled, and her biggest fan is her husband of 45 years.

“When we bought this house there was a room that the lady designated as her sewing room, and I had to carry on that tradition,” Syndee says. Being an 1895 Victorian house, this particular room had no closet so she used another bedroom for her bolt storage, which she still uses today. She stores them in crates that she bought from a fabric store. In this particular bedroom are eight drawers, which go under the three flights of stairs that lead to what was a ballroom that was used to entertain the military in the late 1800s. The drawers are very long and deep, and she has filled them to the brim.
