Originally from a 1930s-era baby dress, this Sarah Viola pattern incorporates simple smocking at the yoke and short puffed sleeves with a slight ruffle. Designer Paige Alexander was inspired by the simplicity and construction of this antique dress, so she recreated the pattern and added modern fabrics.
“I absolutely loved the sleeves,” Paige says. “I had never seen a dress with sleeves like this.”
This dress was originally worn by Paige’s friend’s mother, who was born in 1931. It was the only store-bought dress she had as an infant.
